How to Become a Christian
1. You need to realize first that you are a sinner. Everyone has failed God. Romans says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
2. Sin has a penalty. For us to continue in sin means eternal death and separation from God. Romans 6:23a tells us, “For the wages of sin is death…”
3. But God did not leave us in our misery. Jesus came to pay the penalty for us and to reveal the love that God has for each one of us. Romans 6:23b says, “...but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” And Jesus said himself in John 3:16 and 17 that, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
4. If we, in faith, believe that Jesus paid the price for our sins and will repent (turn away) from our sins and turn to God, He will forgive us and create a new life in us. Pray and ask God to forgive you of your sins and to give you a new heart. Romans 10:9-13 assures us, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."
5. Next, you need to tell someone about your commitment. A good place to start is with a minister. We would be happy to have you join us here at Middle Grave Creek.
